The major overhaul of the Leibstadt Nuclear Power Plant (KKL) took 195 days in total. As a result of two additional extensions, the plant was idle for more than a month longer than originally planned. These unplanned extensions in particular led to a massive increase in replacement energy costs, as energy had to be procured in a very tough market at prices of up to 300 euros per MWh.

The major overhaul of the KKL worsened BKW’s annual result for 2021 by around CHF 70 million overall. BKW will present the confirmed annual result for 2021 on 15 March 2022.
