BKW sells Italian distribution business and stake in Casa delle Nuove Energie

BKW Italia

With its forward-looking strategy, BKW is turning from a classic utility into a vertically integrated energy and infrastructure service provider. In this context, it has signed contracts with E.ON and Illumia for the sale of its distribution business in Italy and its stake in Casa delle Nuove Energie (CDNE). BKW Italia’s other activities will continue unchanged.

In light of the current market situation and the development of the Group, BKW has decided to sell Electra Italia’s distribution business, as announced in April. It will also be selling its stake in CDNE, whose activities are directly linked to the distribution business.

BKW has signed the relevant contracts with E.ON and Illumia. E.ON will be taking over BKW’s majority stake in CDNE and Electra Italia’s major customers. The SME and reseller portions of Electra Italia will be taken over by Illumia. The completion of the Electra Italia transactions still requires the consent of the Italian competition authority. The transaction regarding the stake in CDNE was completed by the signing of the contract.

Following these proceedings, BKW Italia will continue to concentrate on the areas of energy production, engineering and energy contracting. These are the BKW group’s main focal points and will continue to be pursued and developed in Italy.
