Official inauguration of the gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Livorno Ferraris

Production in Italy

BKW FMB Energy Ltd. (BKW) and E.ON Energie AG (E.ON) are tomorrow, Friday, officially inaugurating the advanced gas-fired combined-cycle power plant at Livorno Ferraris in the Piedmont region of Italy. BKW is thus strengthening its presence in the Italian market.
In 2006 BKW acquired a 25% stake in the 800 MW gas-fired combined-cycle power plant owned by E.ON Produzione Centrale Livorno Ferraris S.p.A., an Italian subsidiary of E.ON. The plant is being officially inaugurated tomorrow following a six-and-a-half-year period during which the necessary permits were obtained and construction work completed. With an efficiency level of approx. 57% the plant is one of the most advanced of its type in the world, setting new standards for CO2 emissions and the use of resources. Its output is sufficient to supply as many as one million households with electricity. Added to the eight hydroelectricity plants in Italy's Lombardy region, BKW will now have access to an installed capacity of some 250 MW. Capital expenditure costs for participation in the gas-fired combined-cycle power plant in Livorno Ferraris are in the region of CHF 230 million.
