Decision on construction of Alpbach hydroelectricity plant in Kandersteg

Kraftwerke Kander Alp AG

In the spring of 2008 Kraftwerke Kander Alp AG (KKA), a partner company of BKW FMB Energy Ltd (BKW), and Licht- und Wasserwerk AG Kandersteg (LWK) will start work on construction of the Alpbach run-of-river plant. The go-ahead decision was taken by the parent companies as well as the Board of Directors of KKA.
The run-of-river power plant will have an annual production volume of 10.5 million kilowatt-hours, equivalent to the annual consumption of 2,300 households. It will produce renewable CO2-free energy and make an important contribution to regional security of supply. The Alpbach power plant will go into operation in the autumn of 2009, feeding the electricity it generates into the LWK grid.
