BKW expands engineering expertise in Germany and Austria

Acquisition of Priedemann Fassadenberatung GmbH and KS Ingenieure GmbH

BKW’s Engineering business area is expanding its construction service portfolio under the strategy “Solutions 2030”. Priedemann Fassadenberatung GmbH (Germany) and KS Ingenieure GmbH (Austria) will join the BKW Engineering network of specialist companies. These acquisitions boost BKW’s expertise in the fast-growing markets of façades, sustainable building shells, and structural and general planning, while at the same time expanding its market presence in Germany and Austria.

Under its strategy “Solutions 2030”, BKW is aiming for profitable growth in the planning, construction and maintenance of infrastructure and buildings in its Infrastructure & Buildings business segment. The BKW Engineering division is therefore expanding its service portfolio through targeted acquisitions. The purchase of Priedemann Fassadenberatung GmbH and KS Ingenieure GmbH represents a further boost to BKW’s expertise in Germany and Austria. The BKW Engineering Network is already the largest association of independent engineering, architectural, appraisal and testing companies in the region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. With more than 4,000 employees in over 40 companies at around 130 locations, the network offers highly specialised expertise from a single source.

Leading specialist for façade planning now part of the Engineering network

Priedemann Fassadenberatung GmbH was founded in 1993 and is one of the world’s leading engineering firms for planning in the field of complex façades. Based in Grossbeeren, just outside Berlin, the company has around 130 employees. Priedemann supports construction projects all over the world throughout their entire life cycle – from concept development, façade consulting and approval planning through to execution planning, construction supervision and quality assurance.

The acquisition of Priedemann expands BKW Engineering’s expertise in the planning of complex building shells as well as in the areas of façade engineering, thermal building physics, glass statics and digital planning methods such as building information modeling (BIM). The company’s “Facade-Lab” platform also facilitates the development of innovative, sustainable façade technologies in collaboration with partners from the fields of industry, research and education.

Lars Anders, Managing Director of Priedemann Fassadenberatung GmbH, will retain responsibility for the management of the company in the future.

Acquisition of the Austrian civil engineering firm KS Ingenieure GmbH

Vienna-based KS Ingenieure GmbH has been operating successfully on the market since 1991 and has 53 employees. The established civil engineering firm offers comprehensive services in the areas of structural planning, building physics, project management, tendering and contracting, on-site construction supervision, construction management and technical consulting. It has a particular focus on complex building construction projects, in which it uses digital planning methods such as BIM.

The acquisition of KS Ingenieure GmbH boosts BKW Engineering’s position in the Austrian market and further expands its expertise in sustainable structural and general planning for construction. The company has many years’ experience with public and private clients and brings strong references to the network, particularly in the areas of residential and commercial construction, high-rise buildings and infrastructure.

KS Ingenieure is currently managed by Klaus Stanek and Matthäus Groh, supported by an extended management team. With the company’s inclusion in the BKW Engineering network, Klaus Stanek will now have an advisory role. Management of the company will fall to Matthäus Groh along with Ingo Bormann and Bernhard Wisser, who have served as members of the extended management team to date.

Strategic strengthening of the Engineering network

“The addition of Priedemann and KS Ingenieure means we are gaining two companies that will ideally complement our network in both technical and geographic terms,” explains Martin Fecke, CEO of BKW Engineering. “Priedemann brings outstanding expertise in the planning of complex façades. KS Ingenieure boosts our proficiency in structural and general planning in the Austrian market. Together, these two companies will create additional added value for our customers in the region of Germany, Austria and Switzerland and will make an important contribution to implementation of the BKW Group’s corporate strategy ‘Solutions 2030’.”
