Acquisition of a wind farm in Saxony

Production base, Germany

BKW FMB Energy Ltd (BKW) has acquired the Bockelwitz wind farm in Saxony, Germany. By purchasing the ten wind turbines, each with a capacity of 1.5 Megawatts (MW), BKW is adding renewable energies to its targeted production base in Germany. Acquisition of the wind farm will treble BKW's production capacity in the field of wind power.

The Bockelwitz wind farm in Saxony, whose ten wind turbines - each with a capacity of 1.5 MW - produce around 22 Gigawatt-hours (GWh) of electricity a year, has been in operation since 1999 and is recognised by the German Renewable Energies Law (REL). Compensatory feed-in remuneration is guaranteed up to and including 2019. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. This foreign acquisition will treble BKW's production capacity in the field of wind power: Switzerland's largest wind farm, operated by JUVENT SA in the Bernese Jura and managed by BKW, generated around 9.7 GWh of electricity in 2007.
