BKW posts record results

In 2019, BKW recorded the best results in its history: at CHF 433 million, EBIT was 19 percent above the adjusted figure for the previous year. BKW again increased its revenue, this time by 7 percent to CHF 2,867 million. Net profit was up 149 percent to CHF 404 million. BKW proposes to the Annual General Meeting that the dividend should be increased from CHF 1.80 to CHF 2.20 per share.

Highlights 2019

BKW is investing in the growing market for building automation and ICT – and sharing the journey. Its merger with the swisspro Group has resulted in a strong Swiss alternative for integrated, intelligent and resource-efficient building solutions.

BKW was the first exchange-listed Swiss company to offer a green bond. The green bond in the amount of CHF 200 million met with great demand from investors and was oversubscribed several times over.

As Switzerland’s largest grid operator, BKW has in turn invested over CHF 100 million in the electricity grid. It goes to great lengths to ensure the cost-efficiency of investments in grid restructuring by further driving the digitalisation of grid infrastructure.

The firm of ingenhoven architects, a pioneer in resource and energy efficient buildings and infrastructure, has joined the BKW network. They are among the most prestigious general contractors for international infrastructure projects and have been setting standards for environmental construction and sustainable architecture for years.

BKW took a decisive step in the area of grid services with the acquisition of Germany’s LTB Leitungsbau GmbH. Since the takeover, LTB has already secured two lucrative major contracts in the expansion of the German high-voltage network.

In Mühleberg on 20 December 2019, BKW once again distinguished itself as a pioneer, becoming the first Swiss company to remove a nuclear power plant from the grid. The dismantling of the plant began immediately after, in early 2020.

The outlook for the coming year is positive. However, the effects of coronavirus on the economy in general and on BKW in particular remain unclear. What’s certain is that BKW’s strong position will also be advantageous in this situation.
