When completed, at a total investment cost of some CHF 10 million, the modern solar power plant will achieve a peak output of 1,300 Kilowatts (1st stage 850 kW, 2nd stage 450 kW) thanks to the use of the most powerful solar cells currently available.The plant's total energy production will be equivalent to the average volume of power consumed by 300 households. It's not only the inside of the national stadium that will witness top performances: the 12,000 m2 roof, exposed to the sun, will also be scoring high. Power plant operations will be scientifically evaluated and supported by BKW specialists in collaboration with the Mont-Soleil power plant company. And visitors will be able to take an informative guided tour of the BKW energy platform situated on the ridge of the stadium roof, and familiarise themselves with solar power technology by means of model exhibits and on-line comparisons with other technologies. As the largest eco-power producer in Switzerland, BKW FMB Energy Ltd offers its own customers and partners' customers the modern 1to1 energy sun star solar power product, designed along the lines of the successful wind power product distributed by BKW subsidiary JUVENT SA. Detailed conditions (volume, prices etc.) will be published to coincide with the planned launch of sales in autumn 2004.
